Monique Haan

Monique’s approach to both practicing and teaching yoga is therapeutic. She believes that our bodies reflect our unique life experience, living within our tissues and expressed through our habitual patterns – physically, emotionally and mentally. Through our yoga practice, we cultivate inner listening to the intelligence of our bodies. We learn to inhabit ourselves in new ways – finding opening, insight and spaciousness. From this place, we can begin to live our lives from a more authentic place – deeply connected to our essence. Monique’s self-exploration through yoga led her to study Somatic Psychology, and is a practicing Somatic therapist at the Marina Counseling Center. Monique’s classes are informed by the language of Somatics and InnerYoga, through her years of mentorship with Dina Amsterdam.

May Mei has been practicing yoga since 2001 and is an avid student of Iyengar Yoga. She is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the Introductory II level and has traveled to Pune India to study with the Iyengar family. In her teaching, she promotes the understanding of yoga poses and its benefits through achieving the correct alignment of each pose, as she believes that her students can benefit more from the physical practice of yoga by understanding what the poses are doing for them.

She is grateful to have the opportunity to study with teachers like Ramanand Patel, Kathy Alef, and Leslie Howard. May Mei is also a graduate of Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco(IYISF) 500-hour Teacher Training, Judith Lasater’s Basic & Advanced Restorative Yoga Teacher Training and The Yoga Loft’s 200-hour Teacher Training and Leslie Howard’s Pelvic Floor Teacher Training. Rhani Lee

Rhani Lee has always been fascinated by the healing capacity of the body. After finishing bodywork training in 2005, immersing herself in the wisdom of Yoga came next. In the years since, she has accumulated countless hours of study and personal practice in the field. Rhani’s desire to teach arises out of the positive changes that Yoga brought to her body, mind, and spirit. Over time she has fallen in love with the power of slowing down in the fast lane, and the impact stress reduction has on leading life from a place of ease. Rhani’s classes are relaxing and empowering.

Her work is informed by the studies of Yin & InnerYoga with Dina Amsterdam, Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater, Classical Tantra philosophy and practice with Hareesh Wallis, Katie Silcox, and the late Sri Guruji Amritananda, as well as principles in bodywork and energetics. She looks forward to supporting your practice.

Mary Fox

Teachers, and teachings, often come when and where we least expect them. For Mary Fox, a total hip replacement and rheumatoid arthritis brought her to a funny, irreverent yoga man named Larry Schultz when she was seeking a way to ease pain and deal with injury. Larry was hardly the classic yoga teacher (he was the Grateful Dead’s yoga teacher), but he taught her that first and foremost, we all have to be our own teacher.

After practicing at It’s Yoga in San Francisco for almost ten years, Mary completed 200 hour YTT which changed her life in so many positive ways. A few years later she met a crack up of a woman with a thick Massachusetts accent on Balboa Street in San Francisco. Her name was Joy Ravelli, and in 2014 Mary graduated from Purusha Yoga School’s 300 hour training as a yoga therapist.

Mary also has more than fulltime corporate job where she also teaches yoga. Which is proof that yoga creates space and time for us when we need it most. Come and share the practice with her, and we’ll explore vinyasa, classic rock, the sutras and meditation. In the words of Thich Naht Hanh, let’s turn the endless path to joy.

Katharine Otis

Katharine came to the yoga practice through her studies in theater as an actress. At first it was yoga asana that supported her acting practice and now it is the yoga process (the continued linking of the mind, body and breath to the present moment over an extended period of time) that has helped her whole life.

Katharine is dedicated to the philosophy of yoga outlined by Sri Patanjali, and aims to pepper her classes with the wisdom from our ancestors as applied to the modern yogi! She prides herself on creative sequencing that uses each pose intelligently to prepare the body for what is covered in class.

Katharine’s approach to the practice is playful, full of humor and fun! She earned a B.F.A. in Theater at NYU in 2002, was certified as a yoga teacher at the Laughing Lotus NYC in 2005. She also completed a pranayama certification at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in 2009, received a certificate from the California Institute of Integral Studies in Sound, Music, Voice, and Healing in 2010, and has studied the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali extensively with Kate Holcombe and Chase Bossart. Katharine is in the process of becoming a certified massage therapist.

Laurie Babinski

Laurie started practicing yoga in 2008 when the most unfortunate invention of our time, the Blackberry, had just become all the rage. She had very little free time and needed a place where she could turn off her digital leash, get out of her own head, and get some exercise all at the same time. Enter yoga.

She remembers her first teacher saying that downward-facing dog was a resting pose and thinking, to put it in a more polite series of four-letter words, “yeah sure.” It took her many years to realize that teacher was right. She has since transformed into an arm balance and inversion junkie with a penchant for playlists that can be alternatively lively and moody.

Laurie came back to California by way of Washington, D.C., where she practiced and taught at Tranquil Space, a studio in Arlington, Virginia and Washington D.C. By day she is an in-house lawyer at a fintech startup.

Laurie encourages students to have fun, laugh at themselves, and embrace their imperfections. She is inspired by a mantra that has guided her over the years: “You are, in this moment, exactly where you need to be.”

Yoga is a metaphor for life. That said, I think yoga should be fun. I’m not saying it won’t be challenging or encourage you to test and expand your limits, but yoga is about your own personal journey, and I don’t know about you, but my journey is going to be freaking fun.

Yes, I am a Certified Personal Trainer, TRX Instructor, 500-hr Registered Yoga Instructor, but after all those certs, I’m also a real person, and I know that I’m teaching real people.

We all have our own stories—mine has some twists and turns through a tough childhood and late teenage years blurred by frustration, drugs, alcohol, and a near-death brush with cancer, but I credit yoga with making me healthy and opening my eyes to a world of positive opportunities that I’m now truly grateful to be able to share with others whether you meet me on the mat in San Francisco, or in another great city for an immersion or workshop.

Each class with me has a Beat, a vibration and a pulse. Music can help us deepen our experience. Find your rhythm and connect to your truth. Learn more at dannipomplun.com.

Mira Valeria

Empowerment and connection drive my purpose. In yoga, the physical practice drew me in first, as it does for most; my spiritual practice was born as a result. I thrive on the physicality of a blood-pumping challenge; sweating keeps me sane and grounded in my body and balances out my highly analytical and overly critical mind. While my time at the World Bank and State Department fed a desire for empowerment and self belief, and several years of living and working in poor communities throughout Latin America showed me the value of individual connection, it was the yoga practice that ultimately brought me home to Self.

As an academic, I value methodical sequencing and quality instruction; I prioritize precision, mindfulness and excellence. The practice of Bhakti, however, cracked me open to surrender, love and compassion.

I am a beginner. Always a student. I have completed 1000+ hours of teacher training with my primary teachers, Jason Crandell and Rusty Wells, and have attended countless workshops with well-known teachers from around the globe. I am continuously in search of my next training.

My classes are rooted in gratitude – to Self, to others, and to all teachers, in whatever form they appear. I strive to teach students to cultivate their own practice of love and devotion in a way that feels authentic to them; to practice ahimsa and santosha, meaning compassion and fulfillment, wherever they are in life; and to embrace change, breathe through uncomfortable moments and allow for some freedom to play. Expect lots of sweat and, hopefully, some laughter.

Mira Valeria is a San Francisco-based Yoga instructor and the owner and director of Santa Fe Thrive, an indoor cycling and yoga studio in Santa Fe, NM. She is a writer, translator and wanderlust polyglot. She is available for private lessons, workshops, teacher trainings and interpreting gigs around the globe. Learn more at miravaleria.com.

Rea was first drawn to the physical workout when she found yoga, and was satisfied with breaking a good sweat after working long hours in the corporate world. Her curiosity to the other limbs of yoga awakened with time, now she enjoys not only Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga Yoga but Iyengar and restorative classes as well as meditation, Yoga Nidra and Pranayama (breath work).

Inspired by the power of yoga, Rea left her successful career to learn more about it and dedicate herself to teach and guide students. She is always a student herself too – after graduating at YogaTree she continues to evolve her practice and teaching, studying with her teacher Jason Crandell. Rea also loves to attend workshops with well-known teachers from various lineages.

Her passion is yoga assisting, where she emphasizes proper alignment. Rea is the Head of Yoga Assistants at the popular Yoga on the Labyrinth classes at Grace Cathedral with Darren Main.

Rea’s vinyasa flow classes focus on moving with the breath to cultivate grounding and calming of the mind. She creates thoughtful and creative sequences combined with attention to alignment. Rea encourages her students to find their edges and work with it, as well as find strength, flexibility and balance in their practice.
